MudTools Shape 5 Very Soft Broad Kidney Rib

A CLOSER LOOK

Read the details.

MudTools' selected R5 combines the Shape 5 kidney outline with a Very Soft polymer grade. The main text states a 4.13 by 2-inch profile, and the structured dimensions agree on those two broad measurements. The source describes Shape 5 as a larger version of the kidney family, which makes its contact area a real difference from Shape 0 or Shape 1 rather than another color of the same selected profile.

Compare the broader outline with the size and curvature of the forms you want to assess. A larger contact area and a very soft grade describe different aspects of the tool; neither determines the other. Keep the R5 designation visible when organizing several kidney ribs, especially if their colors or general silhouettes are similar. A replacement comparison should check the complete shape and grade instead of assuming any large red rib provides the same specification.

The source's Very Soft label is a relative grade within its own range, not a measured hardness value. Claims about fewer strokes, improved glide, burr resistance and long life are not independently verified results for every clay body and stage. No pressure setting, universal material compatibility or technique recipe is supplied. The size describes the stated tool profile, not a vessel capacity or a guaranteed internal reach. Other firmness options are separate alternatives, not an included multi-grade set.
